Classes Offered

Curriculum Courses

These courses are part of a one-year program leading to a certificate in Marine Propulsion Systems.

MPS-101 – Introduction to Outboards – teaches students how to use service manuals and where to obtain information using other sources such as Internet. Students learn how to troubleshoot, repair, and service fuel, lubrication, and ignition systems, and discuss shop safety, and proper tool usage. Class meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm. to 4:50 p.m. and begins Aug 21 in the NCMARTEC classroom #120 building #300. MPS-102 – Outboard Powerhead Systems – Students learn about basic powerhead designs and functions with a variety of engines, and discuss why powerhead prematurely fail. Students will examine powerhead components and learn how to use precision measuring tools. Class also includes four-stroke theory, operation and service. Computerized four-stroke ignition systems and electronic fuel injection systems are also covered. Class meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:50 p.m.
Class begins in Fall Semester 2007.

 


Continuing Education Courses



Outboard Marine Engine Repair

An ideal course for the boat owner who wants the knowledge to perform his/her own maintenance and repairs or the student who is curious about making a career in the marine industries. Some topics covered will include: 2 and 4 stroke theory of operation, carburetion, fuel injection, ignition systems, starting systems, and gear cases.

 Classes will begin Monday Aug. 27 from 6 PM to 10 PM in the NCMARTEC classroom # 120 building #300.

Marine Diesel Propulsion I

This course is an introduction to different types of marine diesel power plants and marine diesel support systems. The course focuses on theory of operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, routine repair, scheduled service, and winterization. The course is intended for students wanting to begin a career in the marine industry and boat owners wishing to understand and service their engines.

August 21- October 18 TTh 6 - 9:30 pm 60 hours in the NCMARTEC Building. The cost for this class is $61.30

Marine Diesel Propulsion II

This is an intermediate marine diesel course for students with a desire to become marine diesel technicians. This course builds on Diesel I and introduces more advanced aspects of diesel repair.

October 30 - December 20 TTh 6 - 9:30 pm 60 hours in the NCMARTECH Building.
