Admissions Information

Carteret Community College offers courses under two classifications:

  1. Continuing Education (also known as Corporate and Community Education)
  2. and Curriculum.

Continuing Education Courses provide general education opportunities for the adults. These courses vary in length and are for upgrading job skills, developing new skills, high school completion, or personal interest.

Curriculum Courses are part of a state-approved program of study. A particular program of study leads to a certificate, diploma, or an Associate in Applied Science Degree.

Continuing Education and Curriculum each have separate admission policies.

Continuing Education Admissions - Any adult is eligible to attend adult courses offered through Continuing Education at the College. High school graduates and dropouts who are 18 years of age or older may enroll.

If you have questions about course content and whether you have the foundation of skills to succeed in the course you may contact the program coordinator. Although some courses have prerequisites - generally interest and aptitude determine the program or activity in which students may enroll.

NOTE: High school students 16 years of age or older may enroll in Corporate & Community Education courses (with the exception of Basic Skills) under the following circumstances:

Dual Enrollment Corporate & Community Education courses are open to all persons 18 years of age or older. A high school student 16 years old or older may be admitted to appropriate courses, except Adult High School, concurrently under the following conditions: 1. Carteret Community College is a co-educational institution open to any individual who meets the admission requirements and criteria for the particular course in which they choose to enroll.

Each applicant is encouraged to seek early admissions information and counseling during the admissions process. This will enable the applicant to make a wise decision in his/her choice of study as indicated by identified needs, interests, and abilities.

The counselor, working with the applicant, may recommend a program more suitable to the individual's ability, aptitude, and educational background.
